The Climate Change and Energy Transition Law will strive to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement

Spain now has the much needed Climate Change and Energy Transition Law! A few days ago, Law 7/2021 was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE), which aims to ensure compliance with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.

The four minimum national targets for 2030 are:

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 23% compared to 1990 levels.
  • Achieve a penetration of renewable energy in final energy consumption of at least 42%.
  • Achieve an electricity system with at least 74% renewable energy generation.
  • Improve energy efficiency by reducing primary energy consumption by at least 39.5% compared to the baseline second EU standard.

Together we can achieve the decarbonisation of the Spanish economy and the transition to a circular model that allows us to adapt to and combat the impacts of climate change.
