Viratec is a trade association that brings together organisations from multiple areas that share the common goal of promoting environmental sustainability and the circular economy.
Viratec was founded with the mission to expand the environmental sector in Galicia, improving the competitiveness of companies involved in the development and implementation of environmental and circular economy solutions, contributing to the transition of the rest of the productive sectors towards a sustainable model.
It fosters an ecosystem of cooperation between companies, generating synergies between different areas of knowledge, promoting RD+i, improving training and creating opportunities for internationalisation, while encouraging public-private collaboration to contribute to the sustainable development of Galician society and the conservation of its environment under the principles of the circular economy.
Viratec’s vision is to be a benchmark in the development and implementation of environmental processes, technologies and solutions, at local, national and international levels, that favour the transition towards circularity.
OBJECTIVES
- 1. Unite all the Galician stakeholders involved in the sector of environmental solutions and the circular economy.
- 2. Increase the relevance of the environmental sector.
- 3. Showcase Galicia's capabilities as a hub of innovation in the environmental sector.
- 4. Promote joint environmental RD+i activities.
- 5. Promote entrepreneurship in the environmental sector and back circularity initiatives.
- 6. Support other sectors by transferring environmental knowledge and facilitating their transition to circularity.
- 7. Create solid collaborations with national and international organisations and institutions of recognised prestige in the business, academic, research and environmental fields.
- 8. Serve as support for the Administration advising on the proposal of environmental and circularity solutions.
- 9. Promote the internationalisation of the sector.
What are environmental solutions?
We understand environmental solutions as the set of actions aimed at sustainably managing, protecting and conserving natural resources in a way that is beneficial for biodiversity and ecosystems and helps to improve the quality of life of current and future societies. The environmental solutions industry is a key agent in sustainable development.
What is the circular economy?
The circular economy offers an alternative to the current production model, which is based on a linear value chain that generates waste at all stages – from the extraction of raw materials to the generation of waste, including the manufacturing, distribution and consumption stages. The alternative is to prolong the useful economic life of materials and resources as much as possible, minimising the generation of waste.
